Kurume Kasuri is woven on retro belt-driven power looms from the Showa era, with twenty looms operating from a single motor. Founded in 1948, the mill continues to produce one of Japan's representative yarn-dyed textiles. The fabric is known for its soft, handwoven-like texture. With more than thirty manual steps, each roll requires two to four months to complete. This textile is ideal for creating pieces rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Tatekatsuri, a kasuri technique that expresses patterns solely through the warp yarns, is also known as itagasuri. It is a classic method that creates clean and distinctive pattern expression.
