Kurume Kasuri is woven on retro belt-driven power looms from the Showa era, with twenty looms operating from a single motor. Founded in 1948, the mill continues to produce one of Japan's most representative yarn-dyed textiles. The fabric is known for its soft, handwoven-like texture. Because many of the processes are done manually, more than thirty steps are required, taking two to four months to complete. After weaving, all fabric is finished through hot-water washing and natural drying, shrinking it by about 10%.
This mill also supports aspiring creators and is ideal for those seeking to craft special pieces using traditional Japanese textiles.
The kasuri border pattern changes irregularly. Please be aware of these variations.
