[About Kurume Kasuri]
A retro belt-driven power loom system from the Showa era, where 20 looms operate from a single motor.
This Kurume Kasuri weaving workshop was founded in 1948.
It is one of Japan's representative traditional yarn-dyed textiles.
Features a soft texture close to handwoven fabric.
With over 30 mostly manual processes, each fabric takes 2-4 months to complete.
An ideal textile for those who wish to produce unique works using Japan's traditional weaving techniques.

[Weaving Characteristics]
"Tategasuri," or warp-patterned Kasuri, expresses patterns using only warp threads and is also known as "Itagasuri."

[About Twill Weave]
Kurume Kasuri is generally woven in a plain weave structure, where patterns are created using the "kukuri" binding technique.
At Shmogawa Orimono, a dobby device was added to the Kasuri loom to independently develop twill-weave Kurume Kasuri.
By combining Tategasuri and twill weaving, they explore new ways of pattern expression.

Twill fabric has different colors on the front and back sides.
Please note this variation - either side can be used as the front, depending on preference.

[Positioning of Twill Weave at Shmogawa Orimono]
By combining and reactivating old parts and equipment, Shmogawa Orimono rebuilt the setup to resume the Kurume Kasuri + Twill Weave project.
Focusing mainly on solid and Tategasuri patterns, they aim to add depth and variation to the natural softness of Kasuri fabric through twill weaving.
Weaving dobby fabrics under the tension specific to Kasuri looms presents challenges in preventing weave flaws,
but embracing these challenges through experimentation and refinement embodies the spirit of Shmogawa Orimono.
