    Kurume Kasuri is woven on retro belt-driven power looms from the Showa era, where twenty looms run from a single motor. Founded in 1948, the mill continues to produce one of Japan's representative yarn-dyed textiles. The fabric is known for its soft, handwoven-like texture. With more than thirty manual processes, each roll takes two to four months to complete. This textile is perfect for those who wish to create items that reflect Japan's traditional craftsmanship.


    This fabric uses tatekatsuri, a kasuri technique in which the pattern is expressed solely through the warp yarns. Three different kasuri tying patterns - each with slightly varied lengths - are combined to create a dotted motif.


    Alongside stripes and checks, the dot (mizutama / polka dot) is one of the universal global patterns loved across eras and cultures. Depending on the size, dots may be referred to as"pin dot,""polka dot," or"coin dot."


    This is a technique used to create three-dimensional texture on Kurume Kasuri, which is typically a flat plain weave.
    - Katahaba: dots are created by alternating kasuri yarn and ground yarn.
    - Beta: dots are expressed using only kasuri yarn.
    By arranging katahaba dots and beta dots alternately, a dotted pattern with depth and visual interest is produced - a method that takes advantage of the unique characteristics of yarn-dyed kasuri and the tying (kukuri) technique.
