#4 TRAVELING CHOPSTICKS: GYOZA SUBSCRIPTION & LOCAL CHINESE IN ASAGAYA

Japan has a proverb: "Send the beloved child on a journey." It means that if you truly care for someone, you should let them experience the world's challenges rather than overprotecting them.

I decided to apply this to my chopsticks. I now carry them in my bag to photograph them alongside various dishes whenever I dine out. I want you to enjoy the various dishes of Japanese restaurants together with my chopsticks.

These premium chopsticks measure exactly 21cm, serving as a perfect benchmark for size.

#4 TRAVELING CHOPSTICKS: "MACHICHU-KA" & GYOZA SUBSCRIPTION IN ASAGAYA

Asagaya is just two stops away from Nakano, a famous hub for anime lovers. Despite its proximity to busy Shinjuku, Asagaya feels calm and local, with beautiful zelkova trees lining the streets leading to the 700-meter Pearl Center Arcade.

Deep inside the arcade is Fukushin. This is a classic example of "Machichu-ka"—Japanese-style Chinese cuisine that has been a beloved everyday comfort food for over 60 years.

My favorite: Stir-fried liver and chives (Rebanira) set.

While Machichu-ka is famous for ramen and fried rice, my recommendation is the "Rebanira" (Stir-fried liver and chives) set. The flavor hasn't changed in the 40 years I've been coming here!

A Unique Discovery: The Gyoza Subscription

What makes Fukushin unique today is their "Gyoza Passport." For just 500 yen a month, you can get a free plate of 6 gyoza (dumplings) with any order over 350 yen, up to three times a day!

A row of 6 gyoza is actually longer than my 21cm chopsticks!

I paired my Rebanira set with these free gyoza. The receipt shows the ramen was 500 yen, and the gyoza was exactly 0 yen. It’s an incredible deal for anyone staying in Tokyo for a while.

Special Feature: Restroom Check! 🚽

When traveling, the cleanliness of the restroom is a common concern. Fukushin Asagaya was renewed recently, so the facilities are bright, spacious, and very clean—safe for families and travelers alike!

Rating: ★★★★ (Clean and modern)
