Made in Japan
The Seven Lucky Gods are: Daikokuten, Bishamonten, Ebisu, Jurojin, Fukurokuju, Benzaiten, and Hotei.
According to the belief of"Shichinan Sokumetsu, Shichifuku Sokusho"("Seven misfortunes vanish, seven fortunes arise"), worshipping these deities is said to remove misfortune and bring good fortune.
The faith in the Seven Lucky Gods began in the late Muromachi period and became a well-developed form of folk belief, particularly embraced by farmers and fishermen. That tradition continues to this day.
Daikokuten
A syncretic deity combining Okuninushi-no-Mikoto from Japanese mythology and Mahakala, an incarnation of Shiva from Hinduism.
He governs agriculture and wealth.
Best feng shui placement: tokonoma alcove, or facing south, southeast, or east.
Bishamonten
Originates from the Hindu god Kubera, later adopted into Japanese Buddhism as one of the Four Heavenly Kings (also known as Tamonten).
Worshipped as a god of military fortune, especially by the warlord Uesugi Kenshin.
Best feng shui placement: tokonoma alcove, or facing south, southeast, or east.
Ebisu
A native Japanese god of fishing and commerce. Known for his cheerful smile - so much so that a joyful face is called"Ebisu face."
Enshrined at Ebisu shrines across Japan.
Best feng shui placement: tokonoma alcove, or facing south, southeast, or east.
Jurojin
Originally a Taoist deity and incarnation of the Southern Polar Star. Depicted holding a peach and gourd, often accompanied by a deer. Sometimes regarded as the same deity as Fukurokuju.
God of longevity.
Best feng shui placement: tokonoma alcove, or facing south, southeast, or east.
Fukurokuju
A Taoist sage said to represent the Southern Star (Tannansei), depicted with a large head.
Symbolizes the three blessings: Fuku (prosperity), Roku (wealth), and Ju (longevity).
Sometimes considered identical to Jurojin.
Best feng shui placement: tokonoma alcove, or facing south, southeast, or east.
Benzaiten
The only female among the Seven Lucky Gods. A syncretic deity blending Sarasvati of Hinduism and Ichikishimahime-no-Mikoto from Shinto.
Goddess of water, music, performing arts, and wealth. Widely worshipped for increasing fortune.
Best feng shui placement: tokonoma alcove, or facing south, southeast, or east.
Hotei
Modeled after a Buddhist monk from China's Tang dynasty. Depicted with a round belly and large bag ("bag of tolerance").
Symbol of contentment and harmony, also associated with prosperity.
Best feng shui placement: tokonoma alcove, or facing south, southeast, or east.
