A retro Showa-era belt-driven power loom connects twenty looms powered by a single motor. Founded in 1948, Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed woven textile. It features a soft texture reminiscent of handwoven fabrics and involves a labor-intensive process of over 30 steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete. It's an ideal fabric for those who seek to create exquisite traditional Japanese textiles.
[Features of Weaving]
One of the distinctive features of Kurume Kasuri is its use of the "kukuri" technique to create patterns. The "kukuri yarn" is employed during the tying process, typically using a thicker cotton yarn such as 20/4. After the tying process and dyeing, the tied portions resist dye absorption, resulting in the distinctive kasuri patterns. Once the dyeing is complete, the kukuri yarn's purpose is fulfilled. The dyed kukuri yarn creates unique mottled patterns. Additionally, this technique involves repurposing kukuri yarn as warp threads, producing a thick and durable fabric suitable for a wide range of applications, including outerwear and accessories. The use of thicker cotton yarn contributes to its durability and resistance to friction.
Please note that the warp threads exhibit irregular variations.
