Made in Japan
Operated by a single motor connecting 20 looms, our retro belt-driven power looms from the Showa era embody a nostalgic charm. Established in 1948 during the same era, we are the artisans of Kurume Kasuri. A representative tradition of Japan, our textiles showcase the art of pre-dyed weaving, featuring a soft texture akin to hand weaving. With numerous manual steps involved, it takes 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 processes, making it an ideal choice for those seeking meticulously crafted traditional Japanese textiles.
[Weaving Features]
The weft threads (horizontal threads) include a mixture of 20/1 and 16/1 yarns, creating a distinctive pattern and yarn thickness variation. The warp threads (vertical threads) feature a gradient stripe pattern ranging from navy to blue. For the weft threads, we chose to weave them randomly, rather than using the traditional "tongumaki" technique for kasuri. As a result, the kasuri patterns in the weft do not repeat uniformly, but instead subtly shift with each iteration. This unique non-repeating pattern resembles the bustling intersection of lives at a "scramble crossing," where the same scene appears different due to the diversity of people's journeys intersecting. Please note that the pattern in the weft threads varies irregularly and cannot be perfectly matched.
The range of pattern variations includes red, yellow, and purple, providing a narrower spectrum of color change.
