These fabrics are woven on retro Showa-era belt-driven looms, where twenty looms are connected to a single motor.
Founded in 1948, this mill is a long-established producer of Kurume Kasuri, one of Japan's most iconic traditional yarn-dyed textiles.
The fabric is known for its soft texture, reminiscent of handwoven cloth.
Because many of the processes are done manually, more than 30 steps and 2 to 4 months are required to complete one roll.
This textile is ideal for those who want to create a special piece rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

The warp yarns use a fine 60/2 cotton thread, which produces a delicate and lustrous appearance.
To achieve softness, the number of warp yarns is intentionally reduced compared to standard plain weaves.
To reinforce the fabric while maintaining softness, the weft yarns use 10/1 slub yarn, which is thick and textured.
The imbalance between the fine warp and the coarse slub weft, along with minimal weaving tension, creates a unique expression that combines the depth of natural indigo dye with a soft, uneven texture - made possible through the traditional warping and weaving techniques of Kurume Kasuri.

Kurume Kasuri's indigo dyeing uses the traditional fermentation vat method, known as the most labor-intensive dyeing technique.
Indigo offers a wide range of expression, from robust to elegant, depending on subtle variations in tone.
During the Kamakura period, samurai wore garments dyed in a deep shade of indigo called kachi-iro beneath their armor.
Indigo was believed to have anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and hemostatic effects, and the word kachi (victory) made it a lucky color.
Because indigo repels insects and snakes, it was valued for mountain work, farming, and also for bridal items and bedding under the belief that it"keeps insects away."
It retains warmth and is gentle on the skin, making it ideal even for baby clothing.
