[About Kurume Kasuri]
A collection of 20 retro belt-driven power looms, interconnected by a single motor, transports us to the Showa era. Founded in 1948, Kurume Kasuri Weaving Workshop embodies the essence of traditional pre-dyed woven textiles in Japan. Characterized by its soft and handwoven-like texture, this fabric undergoes an intricate manual process, spanning over 30 steps and requiring 2 to 4 months to achieve its final form. Ideal for those seeking to create intricately crafted pieces within the realm of Japan's traditional textiles.

[Weaving Characteristics]
The technique of "tatekasuri," using only warp threads to create patterns, is also referred to as "itagasuri."

[About Ichimatsu Pattern]
A type of checkerboard pattern where squares or rectangles of different colors are arranged in an alternating fashion. This pattern has been used in decorations, crafts, and architecture as a symbol of good fortune. The interconnected nature of the pattern, symbolizing prosperity and growth, is its essence. Originally known as "ishi-datami" (stone pavement pattern), it gained the name "ichimatsu" when the kabuki actor Sano Ikumatsu started using it on his kimono during the Edo period, becoming popular. Over time, the pattern evolved, and at Shimogawa Orimono, it's interpreted as a "pattern of success" due to the changing times.
