    [About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric, known for its soft and handwoven-like texture. The weaving process involves 20 retro belt-driven power looms connected to a single motor, and it originates from the Kurume Kasuri weaving mill established in 1948. This fabric is renowned as one of Japan's representative traditional pre-dyed textiles and is perfect for those seeking to create intricately crafted pieces using this traditional Japanese fabric.

    [Characteristics of the Weave]
The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade. It was called "shima-mono" (island fabric) because it was brought from distant lands ("shima") and later came to be known as "stripe" during the Edo period.

[Use of Kasu-nokoshi Kinari in the Weft Yarn]
The fabric incorporates a natural texture where small black cotton husk-like dots remain, preserving the unprocessed nature of cotton. The minimal processing aims to maintain the inherent properties of cotton, without any bleaching or dyeing, allowing the original color of cotton to remain visible along with any remnants of foreign substances that couldn't be fully removed. To achieve this effect, the Down-Kawa Weaving Company standardly uses Kasu-nokoshi Kinari in a wide range of fabric types.
