[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric, created using a retro belt-driven power loom system where 20 looms are connected to a single motor. Founded in the 23rd year of the Showa era, it hails from the Kurume Kasuri weaving workshop and stands as a representative of Japan's time-honored tradition of pre-dyed textiles. Its distinctive feature is the soft, handwoven-like texture, exuding a sense of nostalgia. With a labor-intensive process involving over 30 steps, it takes 2 to 4 months to weave, making it a perfect choice for individuals seeking to craft a meticulously detailed piece with a touch of Japanese heritage.

[Weaving Characteristics]
The weaving technique known as "tatekasuri," where patterns are formed solely by the warp threads, is also referred to as "itagasuri."

[Ichimatsu Pattern]
A type of checkerboard pattern composed of alternating squares or rectangles of different colors. This auspicious pattern has been utilized in decorative items, crafts, architecture, and more, symbolizing prosperity in generations to come due to its continuous and interconnected nature. Originally known as "ishi-datami" or "stone pavement pattern," it acquired the name "ichimatsu" pattern during the Edo period when kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu became popular for adorning this design on his costume's hakama. The evolution of the pattern through different eras led to its interpretation as a symbol of advancement at Shimogawa Orimono.
