[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric, produced using a retro belt-driven power loom system that connects 20 looms to a single motor. It originated from Kurume in 1948 and has become a representative of Japan's traditional pre-dyed weaving. One of its distinctive features is its soft texture, resembling hand-weaving. The intricate craftsmanship involves numerous manual processes, taking 2 to 4 months and more than 30 steps to complete. After weaving, the fabric undergoes a natural process of hot water treatment and air drying, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage. It is an ideal choice for those seeking finely crafted, traditional Japanese textiles.

[Weaving Features]
Kurume Kasuri is woven using the "Plain Weave," the most basic weaving structure. Its main characteristic lies in the "Kukuri" technique for pattern expression, and to highlight this feature, the weaving structure is kept simple. However, when creating plain fabrics with an emphasis on texture, artisans take a different approach, experimenting with new possibilities. By varying the density balance between the warp and weft yarns within the framework of the "Plain Weave," they optimize the color reflection of both yarns. Normally, the warp yarn color dominates, but in this fabric, they ingeniously enhance the color reflection of the weft yarn while using the warp yarn as an accent, thus creating intricate color intersections.

[Bokashi Stripes]
For the Bokashi Stripes, bright yellow is used in the weft yarn to achieve a cheerful and lively color. The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade. It was called "shima-mono" (island fabric) because it was brought from distant lands ("shima") and later came to be known as "stripe" during the Edo period." The Bokashi Stripes feature a gradual color change in a gradient pattern. The fabric expresses the vibrant shades of fresh green in a gradient, with the intention of infusing the wearer with energy and a sense of vitality. Four arranged gradient patterns are incorporated in relation to the fabric width, which is referred to as "Yottsuchidachi."
