A retro Showa-era belt-type power loom, with twenty looms connected to a single motor, operates to produce Kurume Kasuri. Founded in 1948, this is the Kurume Kasuri weaving factory, representing a traditional pre-dyed fabric that is iconic to Japan. Its unique feature is the soft and delicate texture similar to hand-woven fabrics. The production involves numerous manual processes, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 different steps. After weaving, all the fabrics undergo a natural drying process using hot water, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage to achieve the final finish.
[Weaving Characteristics]
For the warp (Vertical Threads), fine count 60/2 yarn is used. Along with the vertical and horizontal color arrangements, it creates a shiny solid color effect known as "Chambray." The series with double warp threads feature an original weaving pattern, characterized by a unique play of colors. The green-toned threads on the weft (Horizontal Threads) add depth to the color.
Warp: 60/2 Deep Green 1309B, Weft: 60/2 Deep Green 1309B, Slub: 16/1 Navy
Due to the Chambray effect, the appearance of the fabric can vary depending on the angle of light and the fabric's position. Therefore, we have carefully selected images from numerous shots, but please understand that the color and fabric appearance may differ based on various factors.
