Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese textile with a history dating back to the Showa era. Established in 1948, the Kurume Kasuri Weaving Workshop utilizes a unique setup of 20 looms connected to a single motor, creating a retro atmosphere reminiscent of the past. This workshop, founded in the 23rd year of the Showa period, is renowned for producing Japan's representative pre-dyed woven fabrics.
The fabric is characterized by its soft and delicate texture, reminiscent of handwoven textiles. It involves a meticulous production process with over 30 intricate steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete. This makes Kurume Kasuri an ideal choice for those seeking to create distinctive items that showcase Japan's traditional craftsmanship.
[Weaving Characteristics]
A notable feature of Kurume Kasuri is its "tate kasuri" technique, where intricate patterns are woven using only warp threads (tate ito). This technique is also referred to as "ita kasuri" or "board kasuri."
