[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed woven fabric with a rich history. Established in the 23rd year of the Showa period (1948), the Kurume Kasuri Weaving Workshop operates a unique setup of 20 looms connected to a single motor, creating a nostalgic and retro atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era. This workshop is renowned for producing high-quality fabrics that exemplify the essence of Japanese heritage.
The fabric is characterized by its soft and pliable texture, which closely resembles handwoven textiles. It is known for its intricate production process, involving over 30 steps that take 2 to 4 months to complete. This makes Kurume Kasuri a perfect choice for individuals seeking to create meticulously crafted items with a touch of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
[Weaving Characteristics]
One of the distinctive features of Kurume Kasuri is the technique of "tate kasuri," where intricate patterns are created using only warp threads (tate ito). This technique is also referred to as "ita kasuri" or "board kasuri."
