Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed woven fabric that originates from the Kurume Kasuri Weaving Workshop, founded in 1948. Utilizing a unique setup of 20 looms connected to a single motor, this workshop operates a retro-style belt-driven power weaving system reminiscent of the Showa era. Established in the 23rd year of the Showa period (1948), the workshop is known for producing iconic pre-dyed woven textiles that represent Japan's rich cultural heritage.

Noteworthy for its soft and pliable texture akin to handwoven fabrics, Kurume Kasuri embodies a meticulous craftsmanship process. With over 30 intricate steps involved, it takes 2 to 4 months to complete the weaving process. Kurume Kasuri is characterized by its use of only warp threads (tate ito) to create intricate patterns. This weaving technique, known as "tate kasuri," is also referred to as "ita kasuri" or "board kasuri."
