[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed textile produced by Kurume Kasuri Orimoto, founded in 1948. It operates with 20 retro-style belt-driven power looms connected to a single motor. This fabric is a representative traditional pre-dyed textile of Japan. It is known for its soft, hand-woven-like texture, resembling vintage fabrics.
The production process involves a significant amount of manual work, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 steps. Once woven, the fabric undergoes a process of hot water treatment and natural drying, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage, which contributes to its unique finishing.
It is an ideal fabric for those who wish to create exceptional items using traditional Japanese textiles, with support for entrepreneurs.
[Characteristics of the Weave]
Kurume Kasuri uses fine 60/2 count weft yarn, giving the fabric a glossy finish. By combining 5 to 7 colors both vertically and horizontally, the fabric achieves a lightweight yet deep coloration. The weave is designed to be smooth and even, emphasizing the shine of the fabric. This type of weaving is known as "kiri" at Shimogawa Orimono, representing a formal style of fabric.
