Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric produced by Kurume Kasuri Orimoto, founded in 1948. It stands as a representative of Japan's rich weaving heritage, known for its soft texture akin to hand weaving. With an intricate production process involving over 30 steps and taking 2 to 4 months to complete, it is the ideal fabric for those who seek to create meticulously crafted pieces rooted in Japanese tradition.
[Weaving Features]
The "Tategasuri" technique, where patterns are exclusively woven using the warp threads (tateito), is also referred to as "itagasuri." This technique has been historically used to create "Yukinoko Kasuri," and it encompasses both vertical and horizontal patterns achieved through indigo dyeing and hand weaving.
[Arare Pattern]
The term "Arare" refers to a fine and closely spaced pattern. Unlike printing, the patterns expressed through the tying technique exhibit an interesting arrangement. Although designed with equal spacing, the variations in size resulting from the dyeing process create a unified overall pattern, making it a versatile and multi-purpose design suitable for clothing and various goods.
