[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric that originates from a weaving workshop established in 1948. Operating using a unique setup of 20 linked retro Showa-era belt-driven power looms, this weaving technique produces a fabric renowned for its soft and handwoven-like texture. The intricate process involves over 30 steps and takes 2 to 4 months to complete. Ideal for those seeking to create something exquisite with a touch of Japanese tradition.
[Weaving Features]
Kurume Kasuri employs a distinctive technique known as "Tatekasuri," where patterns are woven solely using the warp threads (tateito). This process, also referred to as "Itagasuri" or "board kasuri," creates intricate designs. The fabric showcases a combination of three irregularly arranged binding patterns, resulting in unique motifs.
