[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric, produced by 20 looms connected to a single motor operating in a retro Showa-era belt-driven power loom. Established in the 23rd year of the Showa era, Kurume Kasuri is a representative example of Japan's traditional pre-dyed textiles. It is known for its soft texture akin to hand weaving and involves a labor-intensive process comprising over 30 steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete. This fabric is a perfect choice for those seeking to create meticulously crafted pieces rooted in Japan's textile heritage.
[Weaving Characteristics]
The "tatekasuri," also known as "itagasuri" or "itagasuri," is a technique that utilizes only warp threads (tateito) to express patterns. The checkerboard pattern, created using various techniques such as "tatekasuri" and "tateyoko kasuri," has a rich diversity as one of the intricate patterns.
