[About Kurume Kasuri]
A retro belt-driven power loom, connected to 20 weaving machines driven by a single motor, produces Kurume Kasuri. We are the Kurume Kasuri weavers established in 1948, representing a traditional pre-dyed woven textile that epitomizes Japan's heritage. Our fabrics are known for their soft, handwoven-like texture. The intricate weaving process involves more than 30 steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete. Once woven, the fabric undergoes a natural drying process, shrinking by approximately 10% due to hot water treatment. This meticulous craftsmanship makes our textile a perfect choice for those seeking a truly special piece.

[Characteristics of the Weave]
Kurume Kasuri features "bokashi" stripes, created by a harmonious blend of varying shades of the same color. "Bokashi" refers to a gradual change in color, forming a striped pattern. The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade. It was called "shima-mono" (island fabric) because it was brought from distant lands ("shima") and later came to be known as "stripe" during the Edo period.
