[About Kurume Kasuri]
A retro belt-driven power loom, connected to 20 weaving machines driven by a single motor, produces Kurume Kasuri. Established in 1948, we are the Kurume Kasuri weavers representing Japan, known for our traditional pre-dyed woven textiles. Our fabrics have a soft texture similar to handwoven textiles and are meticulously crafted through a series of manual processes, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 intricate steps. The finished fabric undergoes a 10% shrinkage through hot water treatment and natural drying.

[Weaving Characteristics]
Kurume Kasuri features a subtle blend of shades in the form of "bokashi" stripes. "Bokashi" refers to a gradual transition of colors in a striped pattern. The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade. It was called "shima-mono" (island fabric) because it was brought from distant lands ("shima") and later came to be known as "stripe" during the Edo period.
