[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Shima Ori is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed woven fabric produced by a retro belt-driven power loom system connected to 20 machines driven by a single motor. It was established in the 23rd year of the Showa era and is a representative of Japan's traditional pre-dyed woven textiles. The fabric is known for its soft texture, similar to hand-woven textiles. The production process involves a significant amount of manual work, taking 2 to 4 months and requiring more than 30 steps to complete. The finished fabric undergoes hot-water treatment and natural drying, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage.

[Characteristics of Weaving]
It features a gradation stripe pattern created by combining six colors. The gradation stripe pattern gradually changes in color. The color scheme is inspired by the seasonal events and imagery of Japan's four seasons.The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade. It was called "shima-mono" (island fabric) because it was brought from distant lands ("shima") and later came to be known as "stripe" during the Edo period.
