[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Shima Ori is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed woven fabric, produced by a retro belt-driven power loom system connected to 20 machines driven by a single motor. Established in the 23rd year of the Showa era, Kurume Shima Ori is representative of Japan's traditional woven textiles, known for its soft and hand-woven-like texture. It undergoes an extensive manual process, taking 2 to 4 months and more than 30 steps to complete. The finished fabric is all naturally dried through hot-water treatment, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage.

[Characteristics of Weaving]
It features a bold stripe pattern created by combining six colors. The color scheme is inspired by the seasonal events and imagery of Japan's four seasons. The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade. It was called "shima-mono" (island fabric) because it was brought from distant lands ("shima") and later came to be known as "stripe" during the Edo period.
