Founded in 1948, Kurume Kasuri is a renowned traditional Japanese pre-dyed textile workshop. We operate a unique set of 20 vintage belt-driven power looms, all connected to a single motor, evoking the retro charm of Showa-era craftsmanship. Our fabrics are characterized by a soft and delicate texture reminiscent of hand weaving. The intricate production process involves over 30 meticulous steps, spanning 2 to 4 months. After weaving, the fabrics undergo a natural hot water treatment and drying process, resulting in a 10% shrinkage.

[Distinctive Weaving Characteristics]
Our weaving technique involves arranging kasuri threads throughout the fabric without specific pattern alignment. The weft threads also incorporate the intricate layering of over 30 colors, creating a complex interplay of hues. This results in subtle variations in color from one production batch to another. Our warp threads, known as "Hitotudachi," are arranged by repeating a single pattern multiple times to achieve a fabric width of 38 centimeters. This unique warping method sets us apart from the conventional approach, where multiple patterns are used to achieve the same width.
