Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric produced using a vintage belt-driven power loom consisting of 20 units connected to a single motor. The Kurume Kasuri textile mill was established in 1948 and is renowned for representing Japan's traditional pre-dyed textiles. Its distinctive feature is the soft and hand-woven-like texture, reminiscent of handcrafted fabrics.
The manufacturing process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete more than 30 intricate processes. The finished fabric undergoes a process of hot-water washing and natural drying, resulting in a 10% shrinkage. This attention to detail and craftsmanship makes it an ideal choice for those seeking to create meticulously crafted traditional Japanese textiles.
