Our Company - Matsumoto Shoten Co., Ltd.

Matsumoto Shoten Co., Ltd. is a long-established manufacturer of traditional Japanese candles (warosoku), founded in 1877 (Meiji 10) in Fukushima, Osaka. Now based in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, the company is led by its fourth-generation president, Mr. Yasukazu Matsumoto.

Matsumoto Shoten continues to preserve the time-honored shojo-kigake technique, handcrafting each candle with care. The company produces and sells both classic warosoku and hand-painted candles featuring seasonal Japanese flowers.

Using natural materials such as plant-based wax, washi paper, and rush grass wicks, their candles are low in soot and environmentally friendly. In addition to their traditional use as Buddhist ritual items, Matsumoto Shoten also develops new products like aroma and interior candles, blending tradition with modern living.
