[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric that embodies the essence of retro Showa-era craftsmanship, with 20 looms connected to a single motor. Established in the 23rd year of the Showa era (1948), it originates from the Kurume region and stands as a representative example of Japan's traditional pre-dyed weaving. Characterized by a soft and delicate texture reminiscent of hand weaving, it undergoes a meticulous manual process spanning over 30 steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete. This fabric is a perfect choice for individuals with a keen desire to create exquisite pieces within the realm of Japan's traditional weaving heritage.

[Weaving Characteristics]
Kurume Kasuri employs the "Yoko Kasuri" technique, where patterns are meticulously crafted using the tying method on weft threads (yokoito). This method offers a high degree of artistic freedom in expressing patterns, including floral motifs and polka dots, earning it the moniker of "Egasuri" or "painted kasuri." The "Tongu," a wooden tube-shaped implement, is used to wind weft threads onto it, and these threads are then woven on specialized power looms. This intricate process, combined with the expertise of tying artisans and specialized machinery, positions Kurume Kasuri as the global pinnacle of traditional kasuri weaving technology, preserving this art form into the modern era.

[Seasonal Flowers]
Incorporating seasonal flowers such as plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, camellias, and hydrangeas adds a symbolic layer to life's beginnings and celebrations. The tradition of adorning life with flowers is deeply meaningful. Each flower has its own "language of flowers" (hanakotoba), and the custom of presenting and dedicating flowers enriches the spirit.

[About Plum Blossoms]

Plum blossoms carry an auspicious meaning of blooming amid adversity. The association with safe childbirth arises from the phonetic similarity between "ume" (plum) and "umu" (to give birth). The general hanakotoba (language of flowers) for plum blossoms includes "refinement," "nobility," "patience," and "loyalty." This symbolism originates from the fact that plum blossoms bloom most beautifully in February, a time of severe cold. Despite the chilly winds, the plum blossoms bloom gallantly, inspiring the attributes of patience and elegance. The symbolism of "loyalty" derives from the legend of Sugawara no Michizane, a nobleman from the Heian period. Michizane, exiled to Dazaifu in Kyushu, is said to have been visited by a plum tree he had nurtured, even in his exile. This legend gave rise to the flower's meaning of "loyalty."
