[About Kurume Kasuri]
A retro belt-driven power loom, comprising twenty interlinked weaving machines, operated by a single motor. Founded in 1948, Kurume Kasuri is a prominent traditional pre-dyed woven fabric originating from Kurume, Japan. Known for its soft texture reminiscent of hand-weaving, it involves a meticulous manual process, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 intricate steps. This fabric is perfect for those who seek to create distinctive pieces with a dedication to Japanese traditional textiles.

[Weaving Characteristics]
A weaving technique known as "Yoko Kasuri" involves tying patterns into the weft threads (Yokoito) and weaving them using dedicated shuttles. This method allows for a high degree of design freedom, including floral motifs and polka dots, leading to the nickname "Egasuri" or "painted kasuri." The process of winding the weft threads onto wooden boards called "Tong" and weaving them with precision on specialized power looms, combined with the skills of skilled artisans, distinguishes Kurume Kasuri as a pinnacle of kasuri weaving worldwide.

[Seasonal Flowers]
Incorporating seasonal flowers such as plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, camellias, and hydrangeas adds a symbolic touch to life's milestones and celebrations. Each flower holds its own "language of flowers," and the tradition of adorning life with flowers through practices like "presenting flowers" and "offering flowers" enriches the heart.

[Plum Blossoms]
A symbol of blooming through adversity, plum blossoms are considered an auspicious motif. The association with "birth" due to wordplay on "ume" (plum) makes them significant for prayers of safe childbirth. The flower language of plum blossoms includes "elegance," "nobility," "patience," and "faithfulness." These meanings stem from the fact that plum blossoms flourish in February, amidst the lingering cold, standing resilient against harsh winds. Additionally, the flower language of "faithfulness" originates from a legend connected to Sugawara no Michizane, a nobleman from the Heian period. When Michizane was exiled to Dazaifu in Kyushu, a cherished plum tree flew to him. This legend led to the attribution of "faithfulness" to plum blossoms.
