[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric that originates from Kurume, established in the 23rd year of the Showa era. This fabric is emblematic of Japan's rich tradition of pre-dyed weaving. It is characterized by a soft and delicate texture reminiscent of hand weaving. The meticulous craftsmanship involves numerous manual processes, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 steps. It is a perfect choice for individuals who seek to create distinctive pieces with a strong connection to Japan's traditional textiles.

[Weaving Characteristics]
The distinctive "Tategoyoko Kasuri" technique expresses patterns through the overlap of warp and weft threads. Kurume stands as the last producer with the expertise to weave this form of Kasuri using powered looms. With the presence of binding machines and skilled artisans, Kurume Kasuri can be seen as the sole remaining region to inherit the pinnacle of Tategoyoko Kasuri weaving techniques in the modern age.

[Gingham Pattern]
A type of checkered pattern where squares or rectangles of different colors are arranged alternately. This auspicious pattern has been utilized in decorations, crafts, and architecture since ancient times. It conveys meanings such as prosperity in descendants due to its continuous connection in all directions. Originally used for cobblestone patterns, it gained the name "Ichimatsu Pattern" when the Kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu popularized it by incorporating it into his costume's hakama during the Edo period.
Due to the changing times and evolving trends, Shimogawa Orimono interprets this pattern as a representation of "success and advancement," reflecting the pattern's transformation over time.
