[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric, originating from the Kurume Kasuri Orimoto established in 1948. It stands as a quintessential example of Japan's representative traditional resist-dyeing textiles. Known for its soft, handwoven-like texture, it carries the essence of the Showa era, with a collection of 20 power looms linked to a single motor operating to create the fabric. The foundation of Kurume Kasuri dates back to the 23rd year of the Showa period (1948), marking a significant historical presence.
The distinctive character of this fabric lies in its labor-intensive craftsmanship, involving over 30 intricate steps, often taking 2 to 4 months to complete. For those aspiring to create bespoke pieces rooted in Japan's textile heritage, Kurume Kasuri offers an ideal choice.
