#1 TRAVELING CHOPSTICKS: GIANT 15CM CROQUETTE IN KAWASAKI

#1 TRAVELING CHOPSTICKS: GIANT 15CM CROQUETTE IN KAWASAKI

Japan has a proverb: "Send the beloved child on a journey." It means that if you truly care for someone, you should let them experience the world's challenges rather than overprotecting them.

I decided to apply this to my chopsticks. I now carry them in my bag to photograph them alongside various dishes whenever I dine out.

I purchased new chopsticks from LUXCRAS to kick off the New Year. These premium chopsticks measure exactly 21cm, making them more than just dining utensils—they serve as a perfect benchmark for size.

Experience Hokkaido Anytime: Uoya Itcho Kawasaki Isago

Founded in Sapporo in 1978, this sashimi izakaya brings the concept of "Hokkaido and Delicious Fish" to Kawasaki.

While the fresh fish tastes incredible, the "Signature Giant Waraji Croquette" steals the show. Comparing it to my chopsticks reveals its massive scale—likely 15cm long.

Another Hokkaido staple is the "Signature Ramen Salad (Dosanko Style)." The contrast between the black plate and my red chopsticks creates a stunning visual.

This salad likely uses the famous Nishiyama Seimen noodles—characterized by their distinct yellow color and curly texture—standard in Hokkaido ramen.

Through this series, I want to show you that these 21cm chopsticks are more than just tableware—they’re a reliable 'benchmark' for discovering the real Japan. Whether it’s the surprising scale of a 15cm 'Waraji' croquette or the beautiful texture of Hokkaido ramen, having a standard size makes every discovery more vivid.

I’ll be taking my chopsticks to many more spots to find new flavors and sizes. If you ever visit Japan, I highly recommend checking out these local gems for yourself! I wonder what we’ll measure next? See you in the next journey.
