Operating using a single motor that connects 20 looms, we are a traditional Kurume Kasuri weaving workshop established in 1948 during the Showa era. Renowned as a representative pre-dyed woven fabric of Japan, our textiles boast a soft and handwoven-like texture. With a labor-intensive process requiring 30 or more steps over 2 to 4 months, our fabric is ideal for those who seek to craft distinctive pieces rooted in Japan's traditional weaving techniques.
[Weaving Features]
The weft (horizontal threads) consists of a blend of 20/1 and 16/1 threads, showcasing an intentional irregularity in pattern and thread count. On the other hand, the warp (vertical threads) features bold stripes of black and white. For the weft, we deliberately opt for a random weaving technique instead of the traditional "tongumaki" kasuri method, resulting in a subtle and ever-changing kasuri pattern. This unique non-repetitive repetition of patterns resembles the daily movement of various people through a "scramble intersection." This imagery of intersecting lives merges with the concept of "pattern intersections."
Please be aware that the weft pattern's irregularity makes precise pattern alignment impossible.
