Our renowned Kurume Kasuri originates from a nostalgic era, where twenty power looms are united under a single motor's rhythmic hum. Established in 1948 during the Showa era, our roots lie in the heart of Kurume - a bastion of traditional Japanese culture. Representing Japan's iconic pre-dyed woven fabrics, our textiles bear a gentle, handcrafted feel akin to those times gone by. The hallmark of our craftsmanship is the meticulous manual labor that spans over thirty stages, a testament to our dedication. Ideal for those who seek to create distinct pieces imbued with Japanese heritage.
[Weaving Characteristics]
Our weaving technique employs the "tong" - wooden slats wrapped with weft threads - for crafting horizontal kasuri patterns. Deliberately avoiding pattern alignment, we intricately intertwine two kasuri threads, dyed black and white, by aligning them in pairs. This weaving method imparts depth and richness to the color gradation. The warp threads, employing a two-color pinstripe design, interplay harmoniously with the kasuri design, producing layers of color expression.
Please be mindful that the kasuri pattern on the weft exhibits irregular variation.
