Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric produced by a vintage belt-driven power loom system with 20 connected looms driven by a single motor. Founded in 1948, it originates from Kurume, Japan, and is known for its soft, hand-woven-like texture. The production involves a labor-intensive process with over 30 steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete. After weaving, the fabric is naturally dried with hot water, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage to achieve its final form. It is a perfect choice for those seeking to create exceptional traditional Japanese textiles.
[Weaving Features]
The warp yarns (tate ito) are woven with fine 60/2 thread, and the combination of vertical and horizontal colors results in a chambray effect, giving the fabric a glossy appearance. The weft yarns (nami ito) are 20/1, the most basic thread used in Kurume Kasuri, emphasizing the fabric's luster.
Warp Yarns: 60/2 14Dark Navy, 6Dark Blue
Weft Yarns: 20/1 Dark Navy
Due to the chambray effect, the color appearance may vary depending on the angle of light and the fabric's position, even though we have carefully selected images from numerous shots. Please understand that there might be slight variations in color perception based on the fabric's appearance and angles.
