A retro Showa-era belt-driven power loom, comprised of 20 interconnected looms operated by a single motor. Founded in 1948, Kurume Kasuri is a renowned Japanese traditional pre-dyed woven textile producer. It boasts a soft texture akin to hand-weaving, with numerous manual steps involved. It takes 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 stages of weaving. The finished fabric undergoes a process of natural shrinking through hot water treatment. Perfect for those who wish to create a meticulously crafted piece of traditional Japanese fabric.
[Weaving Characteristics]
"Bunjin Gasuri," also known as "Shosei Kasuri," gained fame as many literary figures, including Osamu Dazai, favored wearing it. It employs a unique technique called "orinuki," creating patterns differently from the typical "kukuri" technique of Kurume Kasuri. Intricate patterns are challenging with the "kukuri" technique. This involves weaving while gradually untangling a bundle of 20 threads into the weft. After dyeing with natural indigo, small patterns emerge in the untangled weft. These are then rewarped and rewefted to create "Bunjin Gasuri." This fabric is extremely labor-intensive, involving two weaving processes: "weaving to dye and untangle" and a second weaving for "Bunjin Gasuri."
