Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed textile produced by Kurume Kasuri Orimoto, established in 1948, using 20 retro-style belt-driven power looms connected to a single motor. It is a representative fabric of Japan, known for its soft and hand-woven-like texture. The production process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete more than 30 processes. After weaving, the fabric is subjected to hot water treatment and natural drying, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage.
The fabric is highly suitable for individuals who seek to create exquisite items using traditional Japanese textiles and is supported with initiatives for entrepreneurs.
[Characteristics of the Weave]
Kurume Kasuri employs fine 60/2 count weft yarn, giving the fabric a glossy finish. By combining 5 to 7 colors both vertically and horizontally, the fabric achieves a lightweight yet deep coloration. The weaving process is smooth and even, emphasizing the shine of the fabric. This weave is referred to as "kiri" at Shimogawa Orimono, representing a formal type of fabric.
