[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese fabric that originated from Kurume in the Showa era. It is woven using a retro-style belt-driven power loom, with 20 looms connected to a single motor. The fabric is known for its soft and hand-woven-like texture. The entire process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months and more than 30 steps to complete. Once woven, the fabric undergoes a process of shrinking by about 10% through hot water treatment and natural drying.

[Characteristics of the Weave]
Kurume Kasuri is woven using thin 60/2 count yarn for the warp, creating a lustrous finish. By combining 5 to 7 colors vertically and horizontally, the fabric achieves a subtle depth of colors despite its light and thin texture. The weaving process is flat and smooth, emphasizing the shine. This particular weave is called "kiri" at Shimogawa Orimono, and it falls under the formal type of fabric.
