    [About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric that originates from a retro belt-driven power loom system with twenty interconnected looms operated by a single motor. It was founded in the year 1948 and is renowned for representing Japan's traditional textiles. The fabric exhibits a soft texture reminiscent of hand-weaving. The production process involves numerous manual steps, taking around 2 to 4 months to complete more than 30 stages of weaving. After weaving, the fabric is subjected to a natural drying process, where it undergoes roughly 10% shrinkage through hot water treatment. The company is dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and provides a perfect textile choice for those who aim to create intricately crafted products with a touch of Japanese tradition.

    [Characteristics of Weaving]
"Hanpu," as it is called in Japanese, refers to a heavyweight flat-woven fabric made from cotton or hemp fibers. Historically, it was used as material for sailboats, which is why it was given the name "hanpu" or "sailcloth." Hanpu finds diverse applications such as bags, aprons, shoes, and upholstery for chairs. In the past, the thickness of hanpu was classified by numbers ranging from 1 to 11 according to the JIS standard, but this standard has since been abolished. Instead, Shimogawa Orimono has set its own unique criteria for weaving hanpu on a kasuri loom.

    [The Concept Behind "Hampu"]
"Hampu" symbolizes "a challenge to the limits." To develop hanpu fabric on a Kurume kasuri loom, the company uses a special thick yarn called "kukuri yarn," which is used in the "kukuri" tying process of Kurume kasuri. They skillfully weave this fabric with a soft texture unique to Kurume kasuri while maintaining a sturdy and thick quality. The company also creates custom-made gears for the loom, making it possible to weave fabrics that were previously believed to be beyond the capabilities of kasuri looms. This represents their vision of embracing the unknown and achieving success through challenging endeavors.
