    Kurume Kasuri is woven on retro belt-driven power looms from the Showa era, with twenty looms powered by a single motor. Founded in 1948, the mill continues to produce one of Japan's most iconic yarn-dyed textiles. The fabric is known for its soft, handwoven-like texture. Because many processes are done manually, production involves more than thirty steps and takes two to four months to complete. This textile is ideal for those who wish to create pieces rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship.


    This textile features *yokogasuri*, a technique in which the pattern is created by tying and dyeing the weft yarns, then weaving them with a specialized shuttle. Because the weft pattern allows for a high degree of design freedom, yokogasuri is also known as *e-gasuri* ("picture ikat"). The weft is wound onto a flat wooden bobbin called a"tong," carefully aligned to match the design. Combined with advanced tying machinery and the skills of master artisans, this weaving method represents one of the world's highest forms of ikat craftsmanship - preserved today only in Kurume.


    Roses have long symbolized love and beauty. Each color, bud shape, and even the thorns carry their own meaning, making roses one of the flowers with the richest vocabulary of symbolism. Traditionally, they have been used to express one's feelings for a beloved, and most of their associated meanings relate to romance.


    In Kurume Kasuri, flower petals are traditionally expressed using white areas created through the tying process. In this design, however, the drafting method has been intentionally reworked to use a"reverse tying technique," allowing the petals to appear in black instead. The blooming roses - overflowing like a garden in full spring - express vitality and the energetic breath of new life.
