[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric characterized by its retro belt-driven power loom system, where 20 looms are connected to a single motor. Founded in 1948 during the Showa era, it originates from Kurume and stands as a representative of Japan's time-honored tradition of pre-dyed textiles. Known for its soft and supple texture reminiscent of hand weaving, this fabric undergoes a labor-intensive process involving over 30 steps that take 2 to 4 months to complete. It is a perfect choice for individuals seeking to create meticulous and unique pieces of Japan's traditional woven artistry.

[Weaving Characteristics]
Kurume Kasuri utilizes the "Yoko Kasuri" technique, where patterns are created using the tying (kukuri) technique for weft threads (yokoito). This allows for a high degree of creative expression in patterns, encompassing elements such as floral motifs and polka dots. Often referred to as "Egasuri," the process involves winding weft threads onto a wooden device called "Tong," enabling artisans to meticulously adjust patterns using a dedicated power loom. The presence of tying machinery and skilled artisans has positioned Kurume Kasuri as the sole global producer upholding the pinnacle of Kasuri weaving craftsmanship.
