[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric that embodies the essence of Japanese heritage. The production process involves a fascinating interplay of twenty power looms connected to a single motor, reminiscent of the retro belt-driven systems from the Showa era. Founded in 1948, this Kurume Kasuri weaving establishment holds a significant place in Japan's textile history.

The fabric boasts a soft, tactile quality similar to hand-weaving, which is one of its distinguishing characteristics. Its creation involves a meticulous manual process, encompassing over 30 stages that unfold over a span of 2 to 4 months. For those who aspire to create unique, finely crafted pieces steeped in Japan's traditional textile art, Kurume Kasuri is an ideal choice.

[Weaving Characteristics]
One notable feature of Kurume Kasuri is that half of the warp threads (tate ito) are dyed using natural indigo, utilizing the time-honored fermentation vat method. The resulting color depth is rich, and its resistance to fading surpasses that of traditional indigo dyeing. By introducing an extra step during the dyeing process, a gradient effect has been skillfully incorporated. This gradient, originally achieved through Kurume Kasuri's distinct "aramaki" warping technique, has been seamlessly translated into the woven patterns, adding a unique dimension to the fabric's appearance.
