[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed textile, and it is woven using a retro belt-driven power loom with twenty units connected to a single motor, reflecting the nostalgic Showa era. The Kurume Kasuri weaving mill was established in 1948. It is renowned as one of Japan's representative traditional pre-dyed fabrics. The fabric is known for its soft and handwoven-like texture, resembling handcrafted work. The production process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 processes. Once woven, the fabric is treated with hot water and naturally dried, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage. There are also initiatives to support entrepreneurs. This fabric is perfect for those who wish to create a carefully crafted traditional Japanese piece.

[Characteristics of the Weaving]
The warp uses a basic 40/2 thread, while the weft is woven using a combination of 40/2 and 20/1 threads, creating a subtle depth in the colors. This unique weaving method was developed by Shimogawa Orimono about 35 years ago and has remained a long-selling product due to its flexibility in adapting to changing times regarding thread usage and color combinations. The deep and rich plain color achieved by this weaving technique has become synonymous with Shimogawa Orimono's products.
