A retro Showa-era belt-driven power loom, consisting of 20 interconnected looms powered by a single motor, is used in the production of Kurume Kasuri. Established in 1948, we are a traditional Kurume Kasuri weaving workshop that represents Japan's heritage of pre-dyed textiles. Our fabric exhibits a soft and gentle texture reminiscent of hand weaving. The intricate process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 individual stages. The finished textiles are all treated with a process of natural shrinkage through hot water immersion and air drying, reducing their size by approximately 10%. Our textiles are perfect for those seeking to create meticulously crafted pieces with a touch of Japanese tradition.
[Features of Weaving]
We uniquely utilize "mokuito" or twisted yarn, commonly known as "moku ito," by subjecting it to custom processing based on our own standards. Two types of pre-dyed yarn are twisted and processed according to our in-house planning, often resulting in one side being white. Please note that the planning for moku ito processing has ceased, and only available stock is left.
