A collection of 20 power looms connected to a single motor, reminiscent of the retro belt-driven looms from the Showa era, come to life. Established in 1948, Kurume Kasuri Orimoto embodies the essence of traditional pre-dyed woven fabric, representing Japan's heritage. Characterized by a soft texture akin to hand weaving, this fabric undergoes a labor-intensive process, taking 2 to 4 months to complete through over 30 intricate steps. [Weaving Characteristics]
Creating patterns through the "Yoko Kasuri" technique, where weft threads are patterned using the "kukuri" method, and then woven using dedicated shuttles. This technique, also known as "Egasuri," offers high creative freedom in expressing patterns, including floral designs and polka dots. The method involves wrapping weft threads around a wooden tube called "Tong," aligning them with the pattern, and weaving using specialized power looms. Together with the presence of "kukuri" machinery and skilled artisans, Kurume Kasuri stands as the unparalleled hub, inheriting the pinnacle of Yoko Kasuri technology into the modern era.

[Turtle Shell Pattern]
As the name suggests, this motif resembles the pattern of a turtle's shell. The turtle, specifically the Black Tortoise among China's Four Symbols (Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, Black Tortoise), symbolizes longevity and holds the ability to convey the will of the gods. The pattern, where the turtle shell is divided vertically into quarters and sixths, signifies changing perspectives and shifting ideas to progress towards happiness and a positive direction.
