[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed textile hailing from Japan, with its origins dating back to the establishment of Kurume Kasuri Weaving in 1948. This weaving workshop is known for its collection of 20 interconnected retro belt-driven power looms, which evoke the Showa era. Renowned as a representative example of Japanese tradition, Kurume Kasuri holds the essence of pre-dyed woven fabric. Notable for its soft, handwoven-like texture akin to manual craftsmanship, this fabric is characterized by an intricate production process requiring over 30 steps spanning 2 to 4 months. It is a perfect choice for those who seek to create unique pieces that encapsulate their devotion to traditional Japanese textiles.

[Weaving Characteristics]
This fabric's distinct weaving structure is achieved through the use of a "dobby loom," which imparts a textured surface to the Kurume Kasuri. While Kurume Kasuri is typically woven using the "plain weave" technique, which is the most fundamental weaving structure, the introduction of the dobby loom results in a rare departure from the conventional. Down the years, Okawagami Orimono, the manufacturer, has pioneered the use of dobby looms for Kurume Kasuri, crafting a unique approach. Though some styles, like the "Yame Tsumugi," have successfully been standardized for mass production, this particular weaving style remains limited in production due to the challenge of establishing mass production capabilities. Presently, it is produced exclusively in limited quantities, yet research and exploration continue.
