[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a remarkable traditional pre-dyed woven fabric that holds its roots in the Japanese heritage. The weaving process involves a fascinating Notes of twenty power looms interconnected through a single motor, reminiscent of the retro belt-driven systems from the Showa era. Founded in the year 1948, the Kurume Kasuri weaving establishment has a deep historical significance.

One of its distinct characteristics is the fabric's soft and delicate texture, closely resembling the art of hand-weaving. The creation process is marked by extensive manual labor, spanning over 30 stages that unfold over a period of 2 to 4 months. This textile is a perfect choice for those who seek to create meticulously crafted pieces with a strong connection to Japan's traditional textile craftsmanship.

[Weaving Features]
The vertical and horizontal kasuri technique created using power looms is quite rare. Normally, vertical and horizontal kasuri indigo dyeing is done by hand. Utilizing a technique called "kataha hitoe" (literally "one wing"), three-dimensional effects are achieved through intricate binding. Additionally, the "tsumami-zome" (pinch-dyeing) technique introduces blue accents (note: the blue used in tsumami-zome is chemically dyed). The fabric is a blend of various modern Kurume Kasuri techniques, woven together to create its unique character.

[Shippou Pattern]
The "shippou" pattern, where four quarters of the same-sized circle overlap, is referred to as "shippou mon". When this pattern is arranged symmetrically in all four directions, it is called "shippou tsunagi". The circle symbolizes unity and the importance of connections among individuals. Additionally, this pattern symbolizes the continuous expansion and prosperity of descendants and businesses, as it is believed to bring good fortune. The term "shippou" refers to the seven treasures mentioned in Buddhist scriptures, illustrating the equal value of human relationships and connections.

[Intent Behind the Shippou Galaxy Pattern]
The logo of Shimogawa Orimono (Shimogawa Orimono) is visualized as constellations and galaxies. This imagery represents feelings that emerge from human connections, floating up from within the galaxy to shine brightly as stars. By continuously engaging with different people and embarking on new endeavors, the intention is to sprinkle sparkling elements throughout the world, hoping they may serve as a source of courage and vitality for someone, somewhere. This sentiment is encapsulated in the "shippou galaxy" pattern. It is our hope that you will find solace in using it during life's new beginnings and journeys.

[Indigo Dyeing]

Indigo dyeing in Kurume Kasuri adheres to the most labor-intensive traditional method known as "hakkou-date." This process produces nuanced shades that exhibit both robustness and elegance. During the Kamakura period, warriors adopted the practice of wearing a type of indigo called "kachiiro" beneath their armor. Indigo was believed to possess qualities such as anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and hemostatic effects. The term "kachi" (victory) associated with indigo was considered auspicious. Its ability to repel insects and snakes led to its widespread use in mountainous and agricultural settings. Its resistance to pests made it valuable for bridal kimonos and bedding. Furthermore, due to its excellent heat retention and minimal likelihood of causing skin irritation, it's an ideal choice for baby clothing.
