Oita
Oita is a prefecture located in the northeastern part of Kyushu. The population is about 1.1 million, and the Prefectural capital is Oita City. 70% of the prefecture is covered with forests and is blessed with a rich natural environment. The central part of the prefecture is home to volcanoes such as Mt. Nakadake, the highest peak in mainland Kyushu, and Mt. Kuju.
Oita is famous as one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts. There are more than 5,000 sources, and the amount of spring water is the highest in Japan. There are also many types of hot springs, and many tourists visit to enjoy various hot springs.
Traditional crafts and Local specialties
Oita's traditional crafts are "Beppu take-zaikui " and "Hime Daruma ".
Beppu take-zaiku is a bamboo crafts made mainly in Beppu City. There are more than 200 weaving methods, and a wide range of products from daily necessities to bags are available. It features delicate stitches made by hand.
Hime Daruma is an ornament made around Taketa City. The model is a samurai woman who existed 350 years ago. It is popular as a lucky charm that brings home safety and prosperous business.
In Oita, where the eastern part of the prefecture faces the Pacific Ocean, a lot of seafood such as blowfish and mackerel are caught. In addition, the warm climate is used to cultivate an abundance of agricultural products.
