[About Kurume Kasuri]

It originated in 1948 and is associated with the Kurume Kasuri weaving company, which has been in operation since the Showa 23 era. This fabric is renowned as one of Japan's representative traditional pre-dyed textiles.

One of the prominent characteristics of Kurume Kasuri is its soft and delicate texture, reminiscent of hand-woven fabrics. The production process involves a significant number of manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months and more than 30 procedures to complete. The finished fabric is treated by steaming and natural drying, resulting in a shrinkage of approximately 10%. Kurume Kasuri is highly favored by those seeking to create finely crafted traditional textiles with attention to detail.

While Kurume Kasuri is known for its various patterns achieved through the "kukuri" technique, even the fabric woven on power looms retains a distinctive soft texture akin to hand-woven fabrics.
